Nelson’s Green Hairstreak (Callophrys nelsoni) is a striking butterfly best known for its vivid emerald-green underside, often accented with fine white markings. Like other green hairstreaks, the upper side of the wings is more subdued, but the brilliant green below provides excellent camouflage among foliage.
Native to western North America, Callophrys nelsoni is found from California through the Pacific Northwest and into parts of western Canada. It is commonly associated with open woodlands, chaparral, and mountainous areas where its host plants grow.
